I am the Chief Executive Officer and architect of Health Betterment Initiative (HBI), a nonprofit organization delivering mobile, community-based health programs across the DC–Maryland–Virginia region. I created the name Health Betterment Initiative and led the organization’s evolution from a disease-specific effort into a comprehensive, prevention- and access-centered model designed to bring real healthcare services directly to people, especially those who are least likely to receive them otherwise.

Health Betterment Initiative began with a simple but powerful idea: bring blood tests to the community.

From the start, our work has centered on providing the same types of laboratory tests a person would typically receive at their first primary care visit, including diabetes screening, complete blood counts (CBC), and other essential markers of health. Many of the individuals we serve have never had these tests before, or have not had them in years. By bringing laboratory-based testing directly to the community, we remove one of the most significant barriers to care: access.

This model remains at the heart of everything we do.
