Here at HBI, we provide health services to underserved communities. From health education to screening services to research, we make it our mission to break down barriers to healthcare access for all who need it.
Health Screening
One of our core services at HBI is healthcare screening. Since 2006, we’ve provided health screenings to tens of thousands of people, testing them for infectious diseases including HIV and Hepatitis B and C. Knowing their status with these conditions allows them to seek medical attention if necessary and to avoid spreading these conditions to others.
Insurance Navigation
At HBI, we offer assistance with insurance navigation so that everyone in need of health insurance can understand the insurance market and make an informed decision. We have a special partnership with the Virginia Health Insurance Marketplace to offer more specialized assistance in VA, but our services are also available in DC, MD, and PA.

Health Education
We offer educational materials to the community in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, Mongolian, and Vietnamese. These materials provide information about health conditions that affect the community, from infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis to chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
We also have health educators available to provide health information at schools, community organizations, and other group events. Contact us through our Request an Educator form, and we’ll connect you with an expert who can meet your health education needs.

HBI-Research
Our HBI-Research program is a dynamic initiative leveraging our community ties for impactful collaborations.
- Partnering with the CDA Foundation on a publication about HBV and HCV-positive clients and linkage to care.
- Spearheading two other projects with the University of Maryland focused on Hepatitis Delta knowledge and education retention, and relinking untreated or lost-to-care HBV and HCV clients.
